Oyemekun Association of Southern California was formed to foster unity, to promote social and cultural awareness in 1998, members had its first meeting on August 1, 1998 with the following members present at the inaugural meeting; William Amudipe, William Akinwumi, Femi Aribigbola, Olubamidele Dada, Mayowa Ige, Daniel Omolafe, Florence Omolafe, Timothy Omolafe and Bola Owogold-Kuku. Four more indigenes joined the association before the year’s end.
The first set of officers were Dr. Olubamidele Dada and Mrs. Omolafe were co-chairs, while Mr. Daniel Omolafe, William Akinwumi, and William Amudipe were the Secretary, Financial Secretary/Treasurer and Publicity Secretary respectively.
The association presented computers, monitors, and printers to six secondary schools in Akure, donated a television set to a Motherless Baby Home. Since the association was formed, some members have relocated to other parts of the country and Europe. Titilayo Mayowa, a very prominent member of the association slept in the Lord in 2012.
